Tasting notes
The 2015 Chardonnay 3D offers a more masculine, mineral, and salty style that carries incredible caramelized fruit, brioche, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and powerful, with serious concentration, a stacked mid-palate, and a great finish, it’s in desperate need of 2-3 years of bottle age, but this magical Chardonnay will keep for 15 years or more! This was another thrilling lineup from Greg Brewer, and I consistently rate these wines as some of the greatest in the Sta. Rita Hills, as well as all of Santa Barbara County. In addition to the latest releases, I was also able to taste retrospectives of his Chardonnay 3D and Pinot Noir Machado, which only reaffirmed my belief in the quality and age-worthiness of these wines. These are brilliant wines.

A creamy, ample wine, the 2015 Chardonnay 3-D is quite dramatic. Readers should expect an especially viscous Chardonnay with a structural feel akin to that of a red wine in its phenolic intensity and overall breadth. The 3-D emerges from choice parcels within the broader ranch, most of which is used for the Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay.
The 2015 Chardonnay 3 D has an exotic, tropical fruit nose with notes of warm pineapple, green guava and freshly baked bread, plus hints of peach blossoms, mandarin peel and yuzu. Medium-bodied with a wonderfully creamy texture and great density, it has a wicked backbone of lively acidity cutting through the concentrated flavors, finishing long and spicy. 92 cases were made.
