Tasting notes
Sourced from a single rocky, windswept block with very little topsoil, the 2022 Pinot Noir La Rinconada R22 sits atop a gorgeous array of Pinot Noirs from Tyler. The nose evokes an amalgam of the other Pinots in the range, bringing together with remarkable harmony a laundry list of opposites: brooding darkness with juicy succulence, floral lift with savory underpinnings and an overall composed, measured nature with palpable intensity. The palate is plush and decadent while remaining youthfully coiled, combining delicious immediacy with a taut structure. Concluding with a decadent, long finish framed with substantial yet perfectly precise tannins, this is clearly built for the cellar and should dramatically benefit from patience. Fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged in 50% new wood.

The 2022 Pinot Noir La Rinconada Vineyard R22 is often one of the more overt wines in the range, as it is again this year. A Pinot of striking inner perfume, the R22 dazzles with its sublime personality. Dark red cherry, blood orange, spice and crushed rocks all race across the palate. Even with all of its obvious fruit, the 2022 is pretty tightly wound and in need of time. It should be positively stellar in another few years. This is one of the great Pinots of the Sta. Rita Hills.
