Tasting notes
Much more powerful and edgy than the Roll Ranch Vineyard, the 2005 Ojai Syrah Thompson Vineyard is loaded with blackberry and black currant fruit, smoked earth, spiced meat and graphite. This opens up in the glass and shows beautiful minerality with solid complexity. On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated, showing loads of ripe fruit sitting on a structured, solidly built wine. Fine grained tannin shows on the finish, and this should be cellared for another 3 to 5 years and then consumed over the following decade or longer. This was even better on day two and it’s a beautiful wine that blends loads of fruit with awesome structure and cut.

Inky purple. Exotically perfumed bouquet offers spicy raspberry and blackberry scents, along with notes of violet and black olive. Classic syrah on the nose and the palate, with sweet red berry and spice flavors gaining weight and richness with air. Juicy, focused and gently chewy on the long, penetrating finish, which leaves an exotic apricot pit note behind.
The 2005 Syrah Thompson Vineyard is a powerfully concentrated, full-bodied wine oozing with blackberry fruit intermixed with smoky, burning ember, tobacco leaf, charcoal, and spice box notes. It possesses fabulous fruit as well as intensity, and finishes with abundant glycerin and depth. Its 15.3% natural alcohol is well-concealed by a cascade of fruit and glycerin. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Tel. (805) 649-1674
Opaque ruby. Rich boysenberry and blackberry preserve aromas are brightened by smoky dried violet and graphite. Deep and sweet, displaying energetic dark fruit flavors and lively minerality. Turns chewy on the finish, delivering a powerful dark fruit punch and serious tannic grip. Very young but very promising.
