Tasting notes
Good medium red. Aromatic nose combines redcurrant, plum and tobacco. Sweet, supple and moderately dense, with good definition and lift to the flavors of dark berries, plum and chocolate. A rather lush merlot that finishes nicely persistent, with substantial sweet, melting tannins. The first release under this label.

Readers looking for a soft, richly fruity, mocha and coffee-infused wine with oodles of berry fruit should check out the 2006 Merlot Blue Line. This wine is hedonistic and luscious, with plenty of Merlot typicity, medium to full body, and a soft, silky-textured finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. The well-known Bob Foley has been the consistent force behind these high quality wines from Hourglass. Their top wine comes from a gently sloping vineyard near Napa’s Lodi Lane. They have now added another group of wines under the Blue Line designation which exhibit considerable promise, although the production figures are relatively low, about 350-500 cases of each of the Blue Line offerings.
