Tasting notes
From a cool climate Mendocino site, the 2005 Syrah Alder Springs exhibits a fresh blueberry jam characteristic along with graphite and burning charcoal embers in its aromas and deep, full-bodied flavors. It is sensationally fruity, well-delineated, pure, and deep. Remarkably, 100% whole clusters were used during this wine’s fermentation. This joint project of Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts is a tiny boutique operation focusing on fewer than 1,000 cases of wine. Trivia buffs will be interested to learn that the beautiful label of California Fuchsia was painted by Margaret Biever-Mondavi, Nathan Lee Roberts’ grandmother. Tel. Deep ruby. Fresh, perfumed red and dark berry aromas are complemented by hints of woodsmoke, licorice and graphite. Lush and deep in dark berry flavors, with a bright jolt of minerality providing lift and focus. Very pure and elegant wine finishing with impressive persistence and seductive spice notes. This was 100% whole-cluster fermented.
