Tasting notes
Representing the more approachable side of the estate's Stags Ridge Vineyard, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Shale is still impressively concentrated and age-worthy. It's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in French oak. Scents of dark chocolate, plum and cassis emerge on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied and richly textured, with a long, velvety finish. Promising stuff.

Coming from a single vineyard on Atlas Peak, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Shale is made in a full-bodied, concentrated, yet also elegant style that brings plenty of tannins and structure. Showing lots of darker cherry and currant fruit as well as notes of bouquet garni and graphite, it has a great mid-palate, ripe, building tannins, and outstanding length. Give it 2-4 years and enjoy over the following 15 years or more.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Shale is distinguished in this range by its bright red-toned fruit and floral profile, both of which help convey an impression of elegance that works well with the wine's mid-weight structure and overall feel. I especially like the energy and vibrancy here.
