Tasting notes
The dark ruby-colored 2000 Merlot (only 225 cases) is more tannic and rustic than what is typically found at Quilceda Creek. Produced primarily from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard fruit (66%), it exhibits waxy, spicy blackberry aromas. On the palate, this firm, medium-bodied wine offers outstanding purity and focus. Black currants, cassis, and black cherries can be discerned in its foursquare character. Projected maturity: 2005-2013. (Not yet released) Tel. (360) 568-2389

About the producer

Founded in 1978, Quilceda Creek helped put Washington Cabernet on the world stage. Mentored by André Tchelistcheff, the family-owned winery became renowned for its powerful, age-worthy Cabernets and was the first U.S. winery outside California to earn 100 points from Wine Advocate.
