Tasting notes
The 2018 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard has a deep ruby-purple color and aromas of dried plums, baked blackberries, forest floor and aniseed. The medium-palate has a compressed fruit character with a firm frame and flavors a bit more reminiscent of Zinfandel than the elegant, lifted Pinot Noirs from top vineyards in Sonoma Coast this cooler vintage.

I loved the 2017, and the 2018 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard is even better, with a touch more density and depth. Deeply colored, it has a savory, meaty bouquet of black raspberries, scorched earth, violets, graphite, and crushed rocks. A big, powerful Pinot Noir from this brilliant team, it's full-bodied, has a seamless texture, plenty of building structure, and a great, great finish that certainly keeps you coming back to the glass. This big, rich, stacked 2018 has everything in the right place and has the depth and balance to evolve for 15 years or more.
The 2018 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard is the single greatest Pinot I have ever tasted from Rivers-Marie. Rich, deep and explosive in its beauty, the 2018 is an arresting, breathtaking wine that takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. Inky dark fruit, spice, licorice and lavender infuse the 2018 with tremendous textural richness, and yet there is no feeling of excess weight. A Pinot of dizzying intensity and richness, the Platt has so much to give and so much to offer. Readers who can find it should not hesitate, as it is truly magnificent. In a word: epic!
