Tasting notes
The 2000 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (500 cases; 17.2% alcohol) boasts an exotic bouquet of Asian spices, figs, plum liqueur, cherries, smoked meats, and herbs in addition to a full-bodied, hugely layered, peppery, spicy flavor profile. There are even hints of molasses and root beer. This huge wine should drink well for 10-12 years. Tel. (707) 525-0570; Fax (707) 525-9463

(17.2%) Full red, with some brown tones. Aromas of plum, mocha and black pepper. Superripe and sweet; like a solid in the mouth, with a chewy thickness and huge size. But I found myself wishing for some primary zinfandel berry flavors. This slightly aggressive wine comes across as a bit topheavy.
About the producer

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
