Tasting notes
Bright dark red. Exotic, candied aromas of strawberry and pepper. Sweet, dense and peppery, with red berry and spice cake flavors. Very expressive and varietally accurate zinfandel, finishing with sweet tannins and very good length.

The spicy, earthy, berry-scented 2003 Zinfandel Duarte (450 cases; 16.7% alcohol) exhibits aromas of seaweed, particularly the wrap-around sushi called nori. The distinctive bouquet leads to a garrigue, southern Rhone sort of personality, with kirsch and cherry fruit, firm earthiness, and a certain austerity. There is also a monolithic quality to the Duarte Vineyard Zinfandel in 2003. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. (Release date 4/05) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
