Score 91/100 · Drink 2007-2013, Robert Parker, Dec 2007
The outstanding 2005 Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard has that wonderful floral, white currant nose intermixed with crushed rocks, a touch of brioche (or is it creme brulee?) with notes of honeysuckle and citrus oil. Beautiful acidity and crispness with little evidence of any oak make for an impressive style of Chardonnay to drink over the next 5-6 years. Fred Scherrer, longtime veteran who apprenticed for nearly a decade at Dehlinger, has been making wine from his family vineyard since 1991. Since leaving Dehlinger in the late 1990s, he has been concentrating on building his own portfolio of artisanally-made wines. The two Chardonnays I tasted were both very impressive.
