Tasting notes
Good deep red. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, mocha, smoke, leather and spices, with subtle balsamic suggestions of cedar and sandalwood. Plush, layered and moderately sweet, offering a fine-grained texture to its slightly medicinal flavors of black raspberry, menthol and spices. The serious finish features a restrained sweetness and substantial, slightly tough tannins that will soften further with more time in bottle.

The luxury-priced 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reveals a dark plum/purple color, and lavish quantities of toasty new oak in the smoky, vanillin, and cassis-scented nose. This forward, soft, medium to full-bodied wine possesses very good to excellent concentration, but the abundant wood flavors push the taster's tolerance to the limit. While this Reserve offering is undoubtedly excellent, I did not detect the depth or concentration necessary to support aging beyond a decade. Tel. (707) 944-0290; Fax (707) 944-8932
