Tasting notes
Winter’s 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the few 2006s that outshines its 2007 counterpart. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon primarily sourced from the estate vineyard blended with wine from several other sites, it boasts an opaque purple color as well as abundant minerality and notes of burning embers interwoven with black currants, blackberries and a hint of barbecue smoke. Full-bodied with impressive texture and length, it still has some tannin to shed, but it should drink well for 15 or more years. I was sad to learn that Rob Winter, whom I had met at several charity events in Napa Valley, prematurely passed away. The wines are now being made by Mike Herby, who is also the force behind the wines of Relic. Tel. (707) 967-9771; Fax (707) 967-8497
