Tasting notes
Lastly, and the only 2015 Coliseum Block Cabernet Sauvignon is all Cabernet Sauvignon that saw an extended élevage, spending 30 months (8 months more than the estate) in new French oak. Coming all from the Hossfeld Vineyard, which is a rocky, hillside vineyard in Soda Canyon, it offers a pure, precise, and elegant style as well as a full-bodied, deep, layered style on the palate. Fabulous notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, camphor, licorice, cigar tobacco, and crushed rocks all emerge from the glass. It’s another powerful yet classic wine from winemaker Sam Kaplan. Hide bottles for 3-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Coliseum Block comes from a vineyard that completely burned on Soda Canyon in the 2017 Napa fires and is soon to be replanted. Deep purple-black in color, it features gregarious black cherries, blackberries, red currants and cassis notes with hints of cedar chest, wild thyme, tobacco and fallen leaves. Full-bodied, firm and grainy with a lively line and tons of muscular fruit, it finishes long and earthy. 210 cases produced.
