Score 92+/100 · Drink 2026-2038, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2018
Bright, dark medium ruby. Very primary, high-pitched aromas of black fruits and licorice. Dense and juicy on the palate but more clenched than the '14 and totally different in texture, conveying an impression of medicinal reserve to its black cherry fruit. The tannins are a bit youthfully tough but not dry, with the finish delivering a subtle whiplash of flavor. Clearly a drought-year style, this wine will need a lot of time in bottle to unwind.
