(95% syrah and 5% viognier, from granitic soils in the Cote Blonde): Bright violet color. Pungent dark berry, violet and olive scents are lifted by zesty mineral quality. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, with spicy cassis and bitter cherry flavors accented by a strong jolt of cracked pepper on the back half. A smoky, bacon-y nuance comes up on the finish, which is given grip by smooth, well-knit tannins. This textbook Cote-Rotie drinks surprisingly well for a 2010, especially with a little decanting.
