Tasting notes
The 2013 Collide is another Mediterranean blend of grapes. In this case it’s 30% Carignan, 27% Petite Sirah, 24% Tempranillo and 19% Graciano. That’s about as unusual a blend as you’re going to find in California, but the results are outstanding. Loads of deep, lead pencil notes intermixed with forest floor, wet soil, blackcurrants and black cherries soar from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, slightly tannic, yet luscious wine. The blend works and is a testament to the creativity and talent of Mark Herold. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

The 2013 Carignane shows just how special this variety can be when featured on its own. A sweet, floral bouquet leads to expressive red-fleshed fruit, mint and spices. Supple and exuberant, with terrific flavor intensity and varietal character, the Carignane hits all the right notes.
