Good medium-deep red. High-toned aromas of raspberry, mocha and nutty oak, with a suggestion of berry liqueur. Sweet, lush and broad, with enticing flavors of dried cherry, raspberry and milk chocolate. Finishes with ripe tannins. Interestingly, this struck me as a bit fatter and lower in acidity than the 2004 release.

Pride Mountain consistently does a good job with Sangiovese, and the 2005 offers aromas of saddle leather, underbrush, sweet cherries, and a notion of unsmoked cigar tobacco. Drink it over the next several years. Previously recommended: 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (93+), 2003 Merlot Vintner’s Select Mountain Top Vyd. (91). Tel. (707) 963-4949; Fax (707) 963-6039
