The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is a very pretty if somewhat slender, wine. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit and spice all open in this lithe, racy Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2011 is very much on the lighter side, but that is the year. More importantly, the 2011 has aged exquisitely and has enough brightness to drink well for another few years. Vineyard sources were Oakville Ranch and the estate, with a touch of Petit Verdot from Sodaro.

Paler than most (‘because of the vintage probably’). This was the notoriously wet vintage, the last vintage incorporating Petit Verdot. Only 1% Cabernet Franc because it didn’t do well in the rains. TCA!! The winemaker, Rosemary Cakebread, is devastated. I could tell there was a lovely texture and a slightly salty aspect to the palate. (JR)

96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. 19 months in 70% new French oak. Cool vintage (more so than 2010). Lighter and more nimble-footed than the 2010, but with the same delicious herby note as well as cassis and black cherry fruit. Gorgeously tender tannic feel and staunchly savoury finish. (RH)

Savory herbs, tobacco, smoke, iron and plums emerge from the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon. Savory notes abound in a powerful, intense Cabernet built on energy and pure class. This is a fabulous showing in a very challenging harvest. Rose petal, mint, sage and savory herbs add the final layers of complexity.
