Score 91/100 · Drink 2020-2031, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Oct 2020

Composed of 100% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Rapszodia (100% Cabernet Franc) was aged in 86% new and 14% second-fill French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the gate with exuberant scents of warm red and black raspberries, kirsch and blackberry pie plus nuances of pencil shavings, forest floor, dusty soil and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has compelling red fruit and earthy layers with a chewy texture and lovely freshness. The finishes possesses smoked meats hints and a slightly rustic mouthfeel. 160 cases were made.

Looking at the 2017 Rapszodia, this is all Cabernet Franc from the Kapcsandy Vineyard located around the estate. It has terrific Franc character in its spicy red and black fruits, forest floor, scorched earth, tobacco, and charcoal aromatics. Medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated on the palate, with good acidity, it has firm, chewy tannins that warrant 3-4 years of bottle age.

The 2017 Rapszodia, made from 100% Cabernet Franc, is absolutely gorgeous. Varietal aromatics jump from the glass in a bright, nuanced wine that dazzles from start to finish. Sweet herbs, tobacco, cedar, red plum and mocha are some of the many notes that develop in the glass. Tremendously rich and sumptuous, the 2017 has so much to offer. This is an impressive showing from Kapcsándy and easily one of the finer wines of the year.

The 2017 Rapszodia is another knock-out wine. Aromatically intense, powerful and racy, the 2017 possesses tremendous character and nuance. Cabernet Franc aromatics, flavor and structure are beautifully expressed. Unlike the 2016, the 2017 also has a good bit of mid-palate resonance and volume. At present, the 2017 is 100% Cabernet Franc. The sample I tasted was taken from barrel, which means the final blend might be a little bit different. At the same time, it is hard to see what the 2017 is missing.
