2020 Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Blanchots Reserve de l'Obedience Grand Cru

This flagship wine is now maturing slowly in a 25hl tank having been blended. The colour is clean with a green tint, the bouquet suggests power but is backward. Enormously steely, with the flesh only appearing right at the finish, all in white fruit, less floral than the regular Blanchots. Grégory finds fleur de cassis or elderflower. Extremely backward but so intense.

For this reviewer, the delicious umami midpalate of this wine is everything. Framed by fresh verbena skin, lemon oil, acacia spice, dandelion, celery leaf and black peppercorn, the wine is exciting now but can benefit from cellaring through at least 2028.
