Tasting notes
Coming from one of the great vineyards in the valley and all clone 337 of Cabernet, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard boasts a saturated purple color and a seriously hedonistic, full-bodied, sexy profile laced with notions of sweet plums, black raspberries, lavender, fruit cake, and hints of licorice. While a rich, opulent effort, it has notable tannins, a silky, weightless texture, and a huge finish. In short, it’s a textbook example of To Kolan. Drink this killer wine over the coming 20 years or more.

Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard, aged for 18 months in 70% new French oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is deep garnet-purple in color and opens with expressive notions of baked black cherries, crème de cassis and preserved plums with hints of licorice, tar, smoked meats and tapenade plus a waft of lavender. Opulent, sexy and packing the To Kalon punch, it delivers mouth-filling preserved black fruits accented by loads of spices and supported by velvety tannins, finishing very long and with compelling mineral accents. 143 cases produced.
Vibrant and powerful in the glass, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard has much to offer. Black cherry, plum lavender, chocolate, spice and sweet French oak are nicely sketched. The 2016 needs to come together, but there is time, and certainly plenty to look forward to. This is nicely done.
