Score 92/100 · Drink 2017-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2015
All the best elements of the vintage at Hirsch come together in the 2012 Pinot Noir Reserve, where expressive fruit collides heads-in with sculpted, incisive beams of acidity and minerality. Dark red cherry, plum, spice and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that gradually open up in the glass. The Reserve remains tightly wound, though and in need of at least a few years in bottle. If opened young - which I do not advise - the 2012 needs at least a few hours of air for some slight elements of reduction to blow off.
