Tasting notes
The 2013 CJ is a 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot blend aged 18 months in about one-fifth new French oak. This is one of my favorite wines in his portfolio, and the good news is that there are 1,800 cases. It has an absolutely spectacular nose of white chocolate, grilled meats, blackcurrants and licorice. The wine is full-bodied, has an opaque purple color, beautiful texture, density and overall richness and length. This wine is showing secondary nuances already, and should continue to evolve gracefully for 15 or more years.

The 2013 CJ is Philippe and Cherie Melka's entry-level wine. Plump, juicy and expressive, the CJ delivers tons of intensity and depth in a forward, open-knit style to drink now and over the next few years. Mocha, blackberry jam, cloves and new leather meld into the voluptuous finish.
