Tasting notes
Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir Estate has a youthfully shy nose, opening to crushed blueberries, black fruits, perfumed earth, smoke and cola with dried violets and red fruit sparks. Medium-bodied, silky and serious in the mouth, it has tons of energetic fruit and spicy accents, with firm, wonderfully grainy tannins and great freshness on the long, layered, energetic finish. 725 cases produced.

Vivid red. Smoke-accented black raspberry, boysenberry, cherry cola and candied rose aromas are complicated by suggestions of star anise and vanilla. Silky, sweet and broad in the mouth; densely packed red and blue fruit and spicecake flavors show alluring sweetness and pick up floral pastille and exotic spice flourishes as the wine opens up. Youthfully chewy tannins add shape to an extremely long, focused finish that leaves behind sappy red berry liqueur, floral and Moroccan spice notes.
As to the red, the 2017 Pinot Noir is a great example of this vineyard as well as the vintage. Lots of cassis, smoked earth, flowers, and ground herb notes define the bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, it has beautiful purity and elegance as well as ample mid-palate depth and concentration. California Pinot Noir doesn’t get much better, and this is capable of evolving for over a decade.
The 2017 Estate Pinot Noir from Pisoni is delightful. Dark berry fruit, tea leaves and a touch of wild mint unfurl on the nose, all beautifully defined. The palate is ripe with a fresh line of acidity that maintains tension, and after a grippy entry, it dovetails into a tender, Burgundian finish. Classy.
