Tasting notes
Score 90/100 · Drink 2009-2024, Robert Parker, Dec 2009

The 2006 Dancing Hares is an intriguing blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 17% Cabernet Franc. This wine displays chocolatey, sweet, smoked herb, plum, black cherry, and currant notes, a nice, fleshy mouthfeel, low acidity, and sweet tannin. It is an attractive wine that avoids the rustic tannins that some 2006 Bordeaux varietals have. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. A tiny 5-acre estate vineyard planted on volcanic rock with the famous red Aiken soils at the base of Howell Mountain, this is another small boutique operation, with a Who's Who behind the wines - David Abreu the brilliant vineyard manager, Michel Rolland the consultant, and Andy Erickson the winemaker. This has been a formula for remarkable success at a number of wineries. As a postscript, wines with this much Cabernet Franc in them generally tend to put on considerable weight, complexity, and richness 3 to 4 years after bottling, so don't be surprised to come back in a few years to find my ratings have moved dramatically higher with this style of wine.
