More reserved aromas are composed by notes of red and dark cherry, spice, especially anise and a whiff of violet. The sleeker and finer middle weight flavors possess really lovely delineation as well as solid punch on the firm, dusty and mildly austere finish that offers slightly better balance. This too needs a few years to add depth, but it seems very promising and is worth checking out. *Outstanding*

Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley has lush aromas of wild berry preserves, aniseed, forest floor, potpourri and tea leaves. The medium-bodied palate is deeply fruited, wonderfully spiced and seamlessly structured, with a very long, layered finish. (EB)

The 2018 Pinot Noir Calegari Vineyard is another fabulous wine in this range. Deep, powerful and implosive, the Calegari has tremendous energy lying in reserve. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2018 is going to need at least a few years to soften. I very much like the intensity here. Rose petal, mint and star anise develop with a bit of coaxing, but the 2018 demands patience. (Drink between 2024-2038) (AG)

The 2018 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard comes from vines planted in 2002. It has a medium ruby-purple color and aromas of crushed blackberries, red cherries, cinnamon, dried tobacco leaves and charcuterie. The palate is medium-bodied with dark fruits, a firmer, grainy frame and a mineral streak, finishing long and still a tad youthfully closed. 629 cases were made.
