Deep medium ruby. Very ripe, slightly port-like aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice and dark chocolate, plus a lively hint of rocky minerality. Plush and sweet but not at all sloppy, with its underlying minerality buffering the wine's mid-palate thickness. This Cabernet spreads out impressively to saturate the mouth without coming across as thick or weighty. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins. An impressively deep 1999, this still-youthful wine holds its shape nicely and may yet develop more complexity. (14.5% alcohol)

The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. Medium brick in color, it is sporting some of its age with notions of dusty soil, leather and prunes, with appealing spice box and pencil shavings hints. Medium-bodied with a taut structure of chewy tannins, it gives just enough fruit and freshness, holding up well on the exotic spice-laced finish.
