(100% cabernet sauvignon) Good deep ruby-red. Pure, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, licorice, violet and minerals. Densely packed but light on its feet, with a captivating juicy sweetness to the flavors of cassis and graphite. More backward and primary today than the Dr. Crane, showing less finishing sweetness and considerable building tannins. This has gone into a shell since I tasted it from barrel and will need at least five or six years of patience.

The first-growth quality 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is pure creme de cassis, cedarwood, and blueberry fruit intermixed with notions of roasted coffee and high quality French oak. Deep, full-bodied, and backward with velvety tannin as well as an expansive, substantial mouthfeel as well as length, this Cabernet should easily age for 20+ years. An outstanding, small, high quality winery that did not make it into my Napa report in issue #186, Realm has turned out a beautiful portfolio of 2007 reds, all of which are made at Chateau Boswell in Napa Valley. Good red-ruby color. An essence of Oakville cabernet on the nose: black cherry, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, shoe polish, mint and loam. Sweet, lush and fine-grained, with lovely mineral lift leavening the wine's glyceral richness. Finishes explosively long and scented, with a light touch and compelling incipient complexity. Winemaker Hirby noted that he has racked his 2007s just once so far.
