Tasting Notes
The two standouts in the lineup include the 2017 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard, which comes from red volcanic soils and 40-year-old dry farmed vines. This magical stuff has incredible notes of white flowers, crushed rocks, salty minerality, and stone fruits. With both power and elegance, it displays bright acidity, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, and a finish that won’t quit. As with all these new releases, it shows a vibrancy and freshness paired with a concentrated, age-worthy feel. Give it 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade.

The 2017 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard is a powerful, dense wine that captures all the structure and intensity of this Moon Mountain site. Readers will have to be patient with the 2017, as it carries tremendous textural intensity and depth. If tasting blind, I am not sure I would peg this is Chardonnay. The structural imprint of this site on red volcanic soils is incredibly strong. This is another wine in the range that is deeply marked by low yields and high natural concentration.
About the producer

Kistler’s Chardonnays are some of the world’s most sought-after. This cult Californian producer crafts small volumes of exceptional, rich and generous, yet mineral and precise wines. With almost the entire production sold directly to their mailing list, the wines are also incredibly hard to find.
