Another winner, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon's dense ruby/purple color is followed by notes of violets, blueberries, creme de cassis, crushed rock and forest flora, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, excellent acidity and ripe tannin. It should drink well for 20-25 years. This estate, situated high on Diamond Mountain, straddling the Napa and Sonoma county lines, is making a bevy of interesting and potentially long-lived wines. (includes 1% cabernet franc): Good bright ruby. High-pitched aromas of cassis, licorice, violet and herbs. Suave and juicy but youthfully imploded, showing a light touch to its cassis, violet, bitter chocolate and mineral flavors. This penetrating cabernet finishes with strong, mounting tannins that will require a good seven or eight years of cellaring. Consulting winemaker Paul Hobbs noted that the severe heat spike on August 22 and 23 was much less extreme on top of Diamond Mountain, and this wine shows no sign of singed fruit.
Constant's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunningly beautiful. Cassis, black currants, tar, melted road tar, asphalt and grilled herbs all jump from the glass in this full-throttle, juicy wine. Layers of mineral infused blueberry and blackberry jam flow through to the effortless, gracious finish. This is an incredibly refined, polished expression of Diamond Mountain.
