Score 95/100 · Drink 2013-2033, Robert Parker, Dec 2010

This is a classic mountain Cabernet Sauvignon meant for long-term aging. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is even better. Combining power, elegance and complexity, this dense purple-hued offering possesses layers and layers of richness in addition to copious amounts of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with pen ink, lead pencil shavings and subtle smoke and earth. Forget this 2008 for 3-4 years and enjoy it over the following 2+ decades. Interestingly, the spring frosts combined with the selection process employed at Constant resulted in less than half the 2007 production. Fred and Mary Constant’s vineyard that straddles the Napa/Sonoma county line high on Diamond Mountain is one of the most beautiful sites in an area known for numerous spectacular vistas. With assistance from winemaking consultant Paul Hobbs, the Constant wines have gone from strength to strength over recent vintages, with the finest examples included in the following tasting notes. Constant produces two Cabernet Sauvignon cuvees, one a 50-50 blend from their vineyard that traverses both Napa and Sonoma counties, and a second wine that is made from 100% Napa fruit. Tel.
