The 2016 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco is beguiling. Beautifully layered aromatics and terrific breadth give the Lazzairasco tons of character. Licorice, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, mint and dried autumn leaves are some of the many aromas and flavors that emerge with a bit of time in the glass. The 2016 is a very pretty, mid-weight Barolo. I only wish it had a bit more freshness and fruit depth, but that is a small quibble at this level.

Serralunga d'Alba. Tasted blind. Just mid ruby. Stones and cherry with a hint of grated nutmeg. Sweet fruit wrapped around coating tannins. Very youthful and firm and with minerally notes on the finish. (WS)
