The 2011 Barolo Brunate is a dark, gutsy expression of Barolo to pair with grilled or roasted meat dishes. There is a tight, slightly austere side to the wine that is reinforced by dark fruit flavors, cola, tar and campfire ash. The wine is firm in structure and long in persistence.

Readers won't find much of the early appeal of the 2011 vintage in Rinaldi's Barolo Brunate. A big, super-sized Barolo, the Brunate is packed with huge dark fruit and equally imposing tannins. The ripeness of the vintage is evident. This is one of the most closed, brooding 2011s I tasted. It will be interesting to see what more time in bottle brings, and especially if a greater element of Brunate typicity emerges over time.
Barolo. Just mid ruby with orange rim. Hints of gingerbread on the nose. Supple palate that is more spicy rather than showing proper fruit and with firm tannins on the finish. Ends a little warm. (WS)
Pale ruby. High toned and rather alluring. Soft yet refreshing. Nothing extreme here but great delicacy and precision. Dry finish but not drying. Certainly not luscious but rewarding. (JR)
