In contrast, the 2017 Pinot Noir Radian Vineyard is more ethereal, pure, and precise. Black raspberries, exotic flowers, blood orange, and rose petal notes all emerge from this fabulously pure, pretty, elegant effort. With fine tannins and integrated acidity, it does everything right. Hide bottles for 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade or more. It’s up with the top 2-3 Pinot Noirs in the vintage. The big news with these The Hilt releases is the addition of two new single vineyard Pinot Noirs, Radian and Bentrock. As usual, winemaker Matt Dees has turned out a brilliant lineup of wines in both 2017 and 2018.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Radian is fascinating to taste next to the Bentrock. Creamy, dense and beautifully layered in the glass, the Radian is all about texture and resonance. Inky red/purplish berry fruit, spice and earthy notes abound in an alluring, rich Pinot that will be easy to drink and enjoy with minimal cellaring. This is a superb debut.

The 2017 Radian Vineyard Pinot Noir has a vibrant ruby-purple color and lush scents of blueberry compote, blackberry jam, raspberry, boysenberry and black cherry plus notions of charcuterie and spices. It's medium to full-bodied and lusciously fruited in the mouth, with firm, grainy tannins and good freshness to counter, finishing on a minerally note. 69 cases were made.
