Aged nearly 10 years now, Nicolas Joly’s bronze-golden colored 2011 Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is the finest 2011 of this tasting, yet it is still far from being great. The nose is wonderfully matured, offering ripe stone fruit and mirabelles aromas along with pastry and some coated, rather grumpy, smoky notes. Elegant and refined on the first palate, this is a crystalline yet rich and powerful Coulée de Serrant with lightly bitter and astringent tannins on the finish, which is most of all powerful and massive yet not really clear and fine. The material should have been excellent, yet again I doubt the cork quality. A pity. 14.5% alcohol. Tasted in May 2021.
