Score 94/100 · Drink 2021-2047, Robert Parker, Dec 2016

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady Vineyard comes from the southern-most end of the Yountville AVA and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 60% new French oak. The wine has a dense ruby/purple color, notes of wet gravel, blackcurrant, a touch of barbecue smoke and loamy soil undertones. It is medium to full-bodied and, like most 2013s, concentrated, dense, structured and powerful. The wine is showing well already, but will be even better with 5-6 years of bottle age and last for 25+ years.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a very beautiful wine. Bright red cherry, pomegranate, mint and blood orange give the 2013 its aromatic upper register and bright flavor profile. One of the more sensual, accessible 2013s readers will come across. Polished, silky tannins round things out in style. This is superb Cabernet Sauvignon from Chris Phelps.

Deeper, richer and more profound, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a denser purple color and a big, sweet kiss of blueberry and blackberry liqueur intermixed with camphor, vanillin and forest floor. It is ripe, full-bodied, and has great fruit and a terrific finish. The tannins and extract are higher in the 2013, and thus this wine, although approachable, should hits its peak in about 4-5 years and last 20 or more.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is plump, juicy and explosive. Inky dark fruit, mocha, licorice and sweet French oak are all signs of the more opulent style Chris Phelps favored back then. The 2013 has aged well, but it is also a wine to drink.
