The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Les Theurons (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) offers up an appealing bouquet of ripe cherries, blackcurrants, ripe citrus and wood smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with an ample core of fruit, satiny tannins and vibrant acids, concluding with a nicely delineated, mouthwatering finish. This is an elegant, charming Beaune that will reward at least a few years' bottle age and offer a broad drinking window.

Bright medium red. Cool aromas of red cherry, licorice and menthol. Fine-grained and perfumed on entry, then rather ungiving in the middle palate. A green element gives the fairly tannic finish a slight hard edge. I'm not wild for this.
Cask sample. 12–15 months in French oak. Lightish crimson. Lifted and pretty. Lively fruit combined with a dusty dry texture which gives a kind of elegance. Acidity is marked here as the fruit is quite light. Just in balance. (JH)

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
