The 2021 Hermitage La Maison Bleue comes from the eastern side of the hill (more limestone and loess soils). It has a vibrant, medium-bodied, red-fruited profile as well as medium-bodied richness, supple, elegant tannins, and a seamless mouthfeel, with some classic Hermitage leather, pepper, and rose petal nuances. I love its overall balance, and this is an Hermitage that will hit prime time with just 2-4 years of bottle age and evolve nicely over the following decade. The big news at Paul Jaboulet Aîné is the splitting of their flagship Hermitage La Chapelle and their Le Chevalier De Sterimberg into their own separate label, Domaine De La Chapelle. All the remaining releases remain under the Paul Jaboulet Aîné label in this report.

The polished 2021 Hermitage La Maison Bleue enters the stage with bright red cherry, red plum, white pepper and cedar. Rose petal and violets add a floral lift. Modestly concentrated yet elegant, it is gently framed by ripe tannins and delivers good freshness on the clean finish.
