Tasting notes
Aromatically, the 1997 Riesling Heimbourg offers new oak spices (however it never saw any oak) intermingled with white flowers and almonds. Produced from young vines on steep slopes near the Clos Jebsal, it is creamy-textured, medium-to-full-bodied, and fresh. Its lovely hazelnut, white/red currant, and yellow fruit flavors are reminiscent of a first rate Meursault Narvaux. Drink it over the next 7 years. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 524-1524.

More exotic, slightly high-toned aromas of tropical fruits, peach and spice. Also rather austere in the mouth, with just 5 g/l r.s. and 13.5% alcohol. Intensely flavored, with a youthful aggressiveness and rather strong acidity. Notes of char and cotton candy. Slightly spiky finish features a hint of burnt sugar, perhaps a result of the very long (a full year!) fermentation.
