Tasting notes
(14.8% alcohol; 6.6 g/l acidity): Deep yellow but less brown than the 1998. Captivating aromas and flavors of pineapple, ripe peach, musky toffee and honey. Rich and deep on the palate; in a distinctly sweet style, but with lovely balancing acidity and energy. Finishes quite savory and long, with a repeating toffee note. This wine was bottled with four grams per liter of residual sugar owing to a stuck fermentation.

The perfumed, honeyed, sexy 1999 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard offers oodles of tropical fruit in its medium to full-bodied, oily, spicy personality. Good acidity provides both vibrancy and definition in this lush, heady, classic California Chardonnay. It will provide enormous pleasure over the next 1-2 years. The restrained, taut, focused counterpart to the Hudson Vineyard wine tasted alongside. This is gentle, refined and altogether a fine addition to the Californian Chardonnay roster. (JR)
Pale yellow-gold. Knockout nose combines apricot, citrus peel, truffle, coconut, smoke, lees and nut skin. Opulent, seamless and deep, but kept firm by sound framing acidity and a bright citrus component. Really lovely sweetness of fruit here. Long finish features charred, vanillin oak.
