(Moreau has just a single one-year-old barrel of this juice, which he plans to bottle in magnums directly from the cask; the owner pulled up these vines after the 2015 harvest): Slightly hazy yellow. Subtle aromas of very ripe stone fruits and smoke. Rich, ripe and sweet, with its pear, apricot and yellow peach flavors showing an obvious oakiness. At 13.2% alcohol, this wine conveys a somewhat exotic aspect. Finishes powerful and long, with a chewy phenolic character.

The 2015 Batard Montrachet Grand Cru, matured in a single one-year old barrel, offers intense citrus lemon, dried mango and mineral scents on the nose, building in power in the glass whilst maintaining fine definition. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry with cheeky hints of vanilla and pralines that complement the citrus fruit. Maybe it just needs a little more nervosité on the finish? Still, this is very fine, although the 2014 delivered much more class and sophistication.
(finished its malolactic fermentation shortly before my visit): Bright yellow. Deep aromas and flavors of stone fruits, white flowers, clove and minerals. Large-scaled, powerful and deep but not overly alcoholic. Sappy, palate-saturating Batard with noteworthy depth and a strong impression of saline dry extract. The slowly mounting finish is tactile and long. (Moreau's Chevalier-Montrachet was too reduced and gassy to taste.)
