Tasting notes
POW—the inky, opaque purple colored 2016 Petite Sirah The Other explodes out of the glass with incredibly energetic floral and black fruit notes of lifted black cherries, crushed blackberries and stewed plums accented by violets, roses, chocolate box and black soil plus a hint of crushed stones. Big, concentrated and voluptuous in the mouth, it has a rock-solid backbone supporting the generous fruit and finishes lively and long. This wine was aged for 18 months in French oak, 25% new. 201 cases were made.

Last of the 2016s, the 2016 Petite Sirah Howell Mountain is a monster of a wine that has full-bodied notes of blue fruits, violets, blood orange, and pine. It has bright acidity, a stacked mid-palate, present tannins, and everything it needs to evolve gracefully for 2-3 decades. This isn’t one of those overdone, fruit bomb Petite Sirahs and is the real deal.
The 2016 Petite Sirah The Other is inky, plush and concentrated to the extreme. Crème de cassis, sage, mint, licorice and blueberry jam fill out the wine's frame effortlessly, with savory notes that develop a bit later. Readers should expect an especially flamboyant, sweet style, even for Outpost.
