Showing nicely, the 1999 Rubicon offers a lively red and black-fruited style as well as attractive notes of smoked tobacco, and spice. Nicely textured, with good mid-palate density, it's mature yet still has good fruit and ripe tannins. It's a beautiful, elegant Napa Cabernet to drink any time over the coming decade.

The 1999 Rubicon is a stunning, inky/purple-colored offering revealing a sumptuous bouquet of smoked meats, barbeque spice, creosote, black cherry, truffle, dried herb, and compost-like characteristics. Full-bodied, rich, and dense, with well-integrated acidity as well as an extravagant richness, this stunning Rubicon can be drunk now and over the next 15-20 years. Tel. (cabernet sauvignon with 3% each merlot and cabernet franc) Good medium ruby color. Very aromatic, ripe nose hints at violet and a leafy franc note. Sweet, juicy and suave, with black cherry flavor nicely firmed by bright acidity. Highly perfumed in the mouth; bright and firmly built. Offers the clarity and grip that the '99 Cask cabernet misses. The tannins hit the palate late. May well merit a higher score with a few years of additional bottle aging.
