Deep ruby, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Petit Verdot, opens with baked plum, blackcurrant, fried sage, graphite, milk chocolate, leather and nori with a spicy core and licorice notions. It's medium-bodied and silky, the fruits segueing to tertiary layers, with firm, gently chalky tannins and good freshness, finishing very long and chocolaty. 601 cases were made.

Even better, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard offers an incredible density and depth of fruit as well as a huge nose of blackcurrants, licorice, chocolate, and lead pencil notes. With good acidity, full body, and building tannins, it’s another blockbuster, classic wine from this estate that readers should be happy to have in their cellar. Drink bottles over the coming 15 years or more.

(15% alcohol): Dark, full ruby. Pure but brooding scents of blackberry, cassis, violet, bitter chocolate and minerals, accented by pungent notes of pepper, licorice and herbs; the Petit Verdot is very much in evidence. At once dense, imploded and sweet, displaying a tightly coiled spring of dark berry and spice flavors. Still plenty of medicinal reserve here in spite of the wine's obvious sweetness and refined texture. Tooth-dusting tannins are substantial but ripe--and perfectly supported by mid-palate stuffing. The very long, savory, rising finish goes on and on. This rather powerful, broad, classically dry Cabernet might be enjoyed now with time in a decanter, but I'd wait. It should be very long-lived.

Intense black fruit and a very fine tannic feel. Has the lustre of quality. Tactile. Beautifully scented finish. (RH)
