Tasting notes
The nose of this wine is distinctly Italian – earthy, bloody with rich swathes of cherry fruit. There is, however, a lifted quality to the fruit, balancing the velvet concentration. The wine is tightly structured at the moment, its fine but firm tannins containing the wine’s potential. There’s juicy freshness here too, with mouth-watering acidity that lends effortless balance, leading on to the long, savoury, smoky finish. Impressive and intense.

Lustrous ruby. Pretty nose of red fruit with a dark earth note and a mere suggestion of oak. Cool-climate character. Sleek and succulent and with fine, gripping tannins; more direct than the Rennina of the same vintage. Will improve with more bottle age, even if it is already very attractive. (WS)
