Tasting notes
The 2022 Syrah Per Sempre was raised for 18 months in 80% new French oak barrels. It reveals more depth and is forward in the glass on opening, with aromas of blackberries, vanilla, oak spice, lavender, and a light savory touch of pancetta. It pours a more saturated purple/red color and is full-bodied, with broader shoulders on the palate. Its tannins are ripe, and its oak spice lasts through its long finish. This is going to take time to harmonize with its more generous use of oak. For my taste, I prefer the Keir, but this will appeal to those who aren't shy about oak. Drink 2027-2040.

The Tua Rita 2022 Syrah Per Sempre draws its precious fruit from a half-hectare parcel planted in 1998 and another parcel planted in 2004. The advanced age of the vines adds to the complexity and depth of the wine with dark plum, sweet spice, toast and campfire ash. Per Sempre ages in oak for 18 months with 80% new wood and 20% second-use barrique. Syrah does a great job of balancing its fruit against the integrated oak. The wine makes a big impact on the senses thanks to its open-knit texture and generous concentration. On the palate, it is firm but also fresh, and both these qualities bode well for its aging potential.
The 2022 Syrah Per Sempre is packed with dark red cherry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, spice, new leather and rose petal. Next to the 2023, the 2022 is dense and super-concentrated, but this is the wine where the differences between the two vintages are the least pronounced. Give this time.
