The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is austere on the nose, but I am impressed by the mineralité and tension and the touches of petrichor and Granny Smith apples. This gains presence in the glass, remaining aloof but captivating. The palate is beautifully balanced with real concentration and depth, matched by a killer line of acidity and lip-smacking salinity on the finish. Very complex and very persistent, this is a brilliant Bâtard-Montrachet. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, which was bottled in spring 2019, has a stunning bouquet of citrus fruit, pressed yellow flowers, honeysuckle and a touch of jasmine. You can lose yourself in these aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a hint of menthol on the entry; there is great depth and intensity here. A rich and generous Bâtard-Montrachet with orange zest and veins of marmalade on the long and very persistent finish. Wonderful.
The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is very promising, unfolding in the glass with aromas of lemon oil, grapefruit, mandarin, crisp green apples and white flowers. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, elegantly textural and beautifully pure, with bright acids, a tight-knit core and a long, detailed finish. The Bâtard saw no new oak this year, and it's all the more integrated and classy for it.
