Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2019-2029, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2017 Beaune Les Cent-Vignes 1er Cru has a bright bouquet of red cherries and bergamot aromas, plus a touch of espresso in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and quite saline in the mouth, leading to a sappy, slightly chalky-textured finish. Fine.

Not made in 2016 because of frost, like Hauts Jarrons. From tank. Racked mid November, a little later than usual. Fragrant and lightly floral tart red fruits. Tight and juicy and with a fine driving freshness, supple and persistent. (JH)
