Tasting notes
The 2002 Shiraz Warner Vineyard spent 19 months in 60% new French oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a stunning nose of camphor, lead pencil shavings, blackberry liqueur, and incense. Fabulously concentrated and rich as well as elegant, pure, and multi-layered, this stunning Victoria Shiraz should drink well for a decade or more. One of Victoria’s most brilliant wineries, Giaconda is fashioning hand-crafted, singular wines that are not only gorgeous to smell and taste, but innovative in both their blends and stylistic orientations. They combine the elegance and complexity of Europe, with the sensationally ripe fruit of Australia. Winemaker Rick Kinzbrunner studied at the University of California Davis and also apprenticed at Matanzas Creek, Simi, Stags Leap, and with Christian Moueix in Pomerol. Medium ruby. Intense aromas of blackcurrant, smoked meat, bacon fat, cracked pepper, violets and dried rose are quite Rhone-like. The powerful, concentrated flavors of cassis, grilled meat, peppercorn and licorice are sharply cut and vivid, with no excess fat. Finishes with excellent length and a smoky, peppery berry quality.(NegociantsUSA Napa CA
